Your group of up to 6 people will team up with one of COL’s friendly and knowledgeable naturalists for an awesome hands-on learning experience in a COL nature preserve! This is a choose-your-own-adventure… you pick what kind of ecosystem you’d like to know more about, and what kinds of things you’d like to do there!
Option 1: Prairie Ecosystem. Recommended timing: July-September
Possible activities: Plant ID, seed collection, seed distribution, butterfly surveying, and more.
Option 2: Wetland Ecosystem. Recommended timing: May-September. This one would be best experienced from a kayak, which COL can provide!
Possible Activities: Plant ID, wildlife monitoring, invasive plant control.
Option 3. Forest Ecosystem. Recommended timing: May-October
Possible Activities: Tree planting, tree ID/inventory, invasive control.
Spend 2-3 hours in the morning learning about the ecosystem in your chosen natural area and how to keep it balanced and healthy-- then enjoy lunch afterwards.
Experience will be scheduled on a mutually agreed-upon date, subject to staff availability. Please schedule well in advance, particularly during the busy summer months. Must be scheduled by September 30, 2025.
