This “Air Gap” bench by Big Paw Woodshop in Three Oaks is part of a series of slab benches reinforced with steel rods to create a minimal structure with surprising air gaps. It is made from a cherry wood slab stabilized with epoxy, with oak legs and steel reinforcements. All wood in the piece is recycled local wood.

 

Big Paw Woodshop is a partnership between two brothers, Wally Siewert of Big Paw Woodshop and Christian Siewart of C&A Arborists, who create custom furniture by transforming local trees into unique pieces. Focused on the local community and self-sufficient, Big Paw Woodshop recycles urban lumber from Michiana and gives it new life through the work of local craftspeople.
